Jim Smigiel, CIO of SEI Investment Company, stated that the Federal Reserve is still likely to cut interest rates, but the number of rate cuts in the future may be fewer than in the past. He said, 'We believe that rate cuts are possible, but the facts indicate that we are closer to the end of the rate cut cycle rather than the beginning.' While comments on improving government efficiency and reducing costs are also on President-elect Trump's agenda, there is a much greater possibility of a rise in inflation. 'Fundamentally, the FOMC will be forced to cut interest rates again in December, and then pause the rate cuts in 2025 to avoid the appearance of a policy reversal shortly after a 50 basis point cut.'
