## Introduction 
Telegram has evolved into an important part of the entertainment sector since it is now [offering various Web3 games](https://www.gate.io/learn/articles/the-state-of-game-fi--new-web3-games-to-watch/4533 "offering various Web3 games"). The number of games on the [Telegram Ton ecosystem](https://www.gate.io/learn/articles/a-ton-of-gaming-hype/3590 "Telegram Ton ecosystem") is likely to increase in the future. This analysis focuses on Helika Sheds’ recent report on the growth of the Telegram gaming sector during the third quarter.   

## The surge in NFT activity on Telegram
The Helika Sheds report which focused on <a href="/web3" target="_blank" class="blog_inner_link">web3</a> games has revealed that there was an impressive growth in NFT activity on the Telegram gaming platform. For example, there was a large surge in the number of unique wallet addresses that interacted with NFTs. During quarter 1 (Q1) the addresses increased from 200,000 to over 1 million. Notably, over 600,000 of these wallets were active in conducting NFT transactions. This shows the growth in games operating on Telegram. Some of the new web3 games on the ecosystem attracted more than 100,000 users within the first month. The main reason for the growth in the Telegram gaming sector is the increase in acceptance of web3 games, most of which have integrated NFTs. 

Another important attribute of these games is  the level of engagement among the users. Maybe the allure of digital collectibles is promoting the high level of participation in some of these games. In its report, Helika cited a game that had around 3,000 users which, however, had a DAU/MAU ratio of 45%. That shows that nearly half of its users participated actively in its gaming activities. Normally, this translates to a high retention rate. On the other hand, the same game recorded over $550 million in trading volume. It is important to note that average games have DAU/MAU of between 20% and 30%. Those with over 40% DAU/MAU have high player engagement and retention. Thus, the web3 gaming report has shown that many Telegram games have high retention and participation rates.  

Apart from the high engagement levels, the average gaming time for the Telegram games has increased. According [to the Web3 gaming report](https://www.helika.io/helika-ton-report/ "to the Web3 gaming report"), the average gaming session length increased from 2.8 minutes in August to 6.7 minutes in the first week of October. The reason for the rise in the average gaming time is their immersive nature. 

## Telegram Games’ Immersive Nature Key to High Player Engagement and Retention
Several factors attract gamers to the Telegram games and lure them to spend much time playing them. Basically, these games are well-known for their social integration, innovative game play and integrated user experience. For example, the user-friendly interfaces promote many players to spend much time playing the games. Such interfaces enable the gamers to focus on the game play without technical challenges. 

Although the games are easy to navigate they have challenging tasks such as quests and contests. Normal human beings thrive well where they come across challenges which they are , however, able to overcome. Most of the Telegram games have tasks that offer the right level of challenge to the players. However, they are designed in a way that most players are capable of meeting their demands. 

Above all else, the games enable the players to have fun. One sign that the players enjoy the games are the lengths of time they spend on them. There is no rational human being who can continue to do something he/she dislikes. Normally, when a game is fun the players feel it and stick to it. 

In addition, games on Telegram are integrated directly within the messaging app. As a result the players do not need to acquire additional hardware or software to play them. Such streamlined experience makes it easy for interested people to play them. Also, it is very convenient for the individuals to switch from their chats to the gaming apps. 

The social features integrated with the gaming platform entice many people to participate. For example, the group channels and chats enable players to communicate with each other. Such social attributes enhance community engagement. In terms of the games, individuals may invite their friends to participate in game contests and quests. 

## Telegram’s Expanding Gaming Ecosystem: The Top Games 
Several games that include Catizen, GAMEE, Cat Gold Miner have recorded over 3 million active wallets during September. Most of these wallets carried out some NFT transactions during the month. The other factor that attracted users were the airdrop programs some of the games introduced. As an example, Catizen distributed 34% of its total allocation to its community members. In the end,  most of its users raised virtual cats, its in-game assets. 

Gamee, another clicker game, recorded over 300% increase in its trading volume month-over-month (MoM). That indicates that the gaming platform has a high level of player engagement. X Empire, launched in July, managed to attract more than 48 million users. As a result, 18 million wallets were connected to the game’s features. Between July and September X Empire offered 570,000 NFTs to its users. Banana, Wanton and Jetton Holders are some of the Telegram games that attracted many users during the third quarter of the year.

The figures in the diagram above show the number of Ton users who transferred NFTs during the mentioned period. What is interesting to note is that the number has been rising over the past few weeks. 

## The Evolving Web3 Gaming Systems: Comparison of Telegram  Games and Traditional Web3 Games
Some changes have been taking place within the blockchain gaming sector. According to the Helika report most of the new Telegram game users are based in Europe. In fact, 55.91% of the players hail from the continent. However, most traditional web3 game players are based in Latin America and Asia. This shows that there is a geographical shift in the number of people who are playing Telegram games. This also shows that Telegram has the potential to attract many people to play blockchain games as well as to use digital assets. 

## Challenges in the Gaming Ecosystem
Whereas there has been an increase in the adoption of [Telegram-based web3 games](https://www.gate.io/learn/articles/what-are-mini-apps-in-telegrams-web3-ecosystem/2587 "Telegram-based web3 games") the blockchain sector continues to face some challenges. The number of [web3 games are rising sharply](https://www.gate.io/learn/articles/play-to-earn-in-2024-web3-games-requirements-and-trends/3051 "web3 games are rising sharply") resulting in very high competition among them. Unfortunately, some developing teams have limited financial resources to market their games. However, the highly competitive blockchain gaming sector has enhanced innovation. For example, some developers are venturing into new gaming genres such as puzzle games and RPGs.

## Speculation on the future of Telegram gaming 
In the near future we are likely to witness a paradigm shift in the gaming sector. The increase in the number of people who play blockchain games will lead to the introduction of new games which are player-centric. Also, Telegram games will play a key role in attracting new users to the web3 gaming sector. Its capability to attract many people to play blockchain games will likely lead to the expansion of the sector. Thus, Telegram will likely lead to the mass adoption of decentralized games. It will also likely lead to high NFT activity in the gaming sector. 

In addition, in the future, we will likely have games that offer personalized gaming experiences. We may see the launch of games with self-adjustment systems to cater for the skills, experiences and interests of players. Maybe the developers will integrate artificial intelligence into the systems to achieve that goal. Personalization in games will likely lead to more engagement and higher retention rates. 

The introduction of personalized rewards may further attract many people to play web3 games. In the future, the developers may create reward systems that motivate the individuals to play the games. For example, they can introduce exclusive in-game rewards earmarked for players who reach certain targets. On the other hand, they can include incentives to boost the players’ community engagement.

## Conclusion 
The NFT activity in Telegram games increased by over 400% during Q3. For example,  there was a surge in digital wallets that transferred NFTs. Most gamers who played Telegram games for the first time during that period were from Europe. That is an indication that games on the messaging app will likely attract many people to use digital assets such as cryptocurrencies and NFTs. In the future, we expect the developers to integrate artificial intelligence in their games to increase personalized experiences and rewards.
