What is Gala Games? Metaverse projects are taking the markets by the storm over this past year, especially since Mark Zuckerberg announced Facebook’s name change to Meta. While attention has been mostly focused on the crypto metaverse leaders such as Decentraland and Sandbox, there is one project in particular that has been recently getting the eye of crypto investors and crypto gaming users all over the world; Gala Games.

In this article, we’ll take a look at what makes Gala Games so special and disruptive for the past few months; its framework, foundation, the GALA token, the five main crypto games available and more.

What is Gala Games?

Gala Games is a crypto protocol that seeks to take the gaming industry into a new direction regarding games based on crypto assets - basically, their motto is to create games that players really want to play, where the infamous “Play to Earn” model values actual entertainment instead of just earnings. Through its tokenomics, Gala developers want to bring power to the players by disrupting the current crypto gaming model, where all the users’ hard work towards NFT rewards and currencies can be stripped away through hacking exploits, company directives or a simple system failure.

With that in mind, Gala Games was created- a decentralized gaming and metaverse crypto foundation built initially on the Ethereum blockchain, which allows players to win active NFT tokens to their gaming accounts. Currently, Gala is also available through the BNB Smart Chain, BSC.

Gala Games was founded by Eric Schiermeyer, Wright Thurston and Michael McCarthy. Together, they have a strong background in entrepreneurship and software development as the founders of Zynga, crypto mining innovators and even developers of the worldwide sensation Farmville.

How does Gala Games work?

The main feature in projects from Gala Games is the fact that they’re entirely free to start and play. For those unfamiliar with the crypto GameFi/Metaverse ecosystem, most games require you to purchase NFTs or directly invest a certain amount into the game to start playing. Since Gala’s motto is to bring power back to the players, that was an obvious õsbtacle towards ownership that was discarded. Players can, however, still purchase NFTs and trade within their market platform.

One key element in Gala’s architecture lies in the founder nodes, which allow for governance changes in the protocol. Founder nodes are able to vote in fundamental changes in the project, such as which games to launch and how their rewards system must function. Up until October, to run a founder node license investors needed to fund a total amount of $18 thousand dollars. While the current number fluctuates according to the game’s activity and the number of users, it is expected that founder nodes will reach a cap of $100 thousand once all licenses have been sold and have been properly functioning within the protocol.

Although Gala currently resides in both Ethereum and BSC blockchains, the project is currently working on becoming a Layer-1 Protocol - meaning it won’t be dependent on other famous crypto plac6100s, having a system entirely of its own to upgrade and develop.

Gala Games doesn’t consist of a single game, but an ever-growing collection of blockchain games. Town Star, for instance, is a browser-based town simulation game - but more on them later.

The GALA token is used for in-game items, NFT purchases and governance protocol through the founder nodes. The Gala Nodes, supported by the plac6100, can be executed by the users who are compensated with GALA tokens, limited edition NFTs e other benefits.

Regarding the GALA token, it holds a maximum supply of 35 billion with 7 billion currently in circulation.

Town Star

As previously mentioned, Town Star is a city-building simulation game similar to SimCity, giving players the option to place their cities anywhere in the world and build as they desire. While building the environment, players can choose to turn certain physical assets into valuable NFTs, then sell them on the platform.

To make the city more attractive, players may also buy NFTs available in the Gala marketplace or even OpenSea, the biggest NFT platform in the world.

Mirandus

Currently in development, Mirandus is an MMORPG game where players find themselves in a territory run by groups called monarchs. As a user, you get to choose which monarch to serve as a soldier or become a shop owner in their communities.

While promising, Mirandus so far only offer players the option to purchase NFTs which will later be used in the game, such as features and accessories for the game classes.

The Walking Dead Empires

Also in development, The Walking Dead Empires is by far the most mainstream project which gives Gala Games a true mark of credibility in the traditional markets. The game is based on the Walking Dead Series after all, tv phenomenon from production company AMC.

In the game, players will be able to defend territories by setting up and customizing their own camps. Through NFT minting and trading, users can craft more accessories and features to the camp that provides them with greater chances of survival and, consequently, a more valuable terrain.
