Gate.io 2023: Focus Back on the Fundamentals

Hi everyone,

As we come to the end of this year and the start of the next lunar year, I wanted to take a moment to connect with you all and share some of my thoughts and reflections for 2022.

This past year has been quite a rollercoaster for the crypto world, with the collapse of Terra, the liquidity crisis faced by many companies in the space, and the FTX incident all serving as important reminders of the importance of security and compliance in our industry.

At [Gate.io](https://www.gate.io/?ch=GM_blog_hansnotes_20230122&utm_campaign=TR_ECETQpqD&utm_content=&utm_medium=CPM&utm_source=CH_sApqy83F&utm_term= "Gate.io"), we have always believed in the importance of protecting our users' assets and building trust with our community. In light of this year's events, we have redoubled our efforts in these areas by implementing audited Proof of Reserves with Merkle tree verification. After being the first exchange to provide third-party audited Proof of Reserves with Merkle tree verification in 2020, Gate.io produced a second audit in October, showing over 100% of users’ assets were held in reserve and releasing the method open source. In addition, Gate.io launched a dedicated page to educate users on the $100M Gate SAFU fund, which has protected user deposits on Gate.io since 2019, all committed to bolster the security of our platform.

But security and compliance are not the only areas where we've been focusing. We know that the user experience is just as important, if not more so. That's why we've been working hard to make sure that our products are top-notch, with new offerings and innovations like Fractional NFTs, Gate Pay, and GEOPay that we've launched this year to make using our platform as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

One area that we're particularly proud of is our charity initiative, which we've been working on for this year. Founding of Gate Charity with a mission to build to help others is one of our proudest moments. We've been humbled and inspired by the way that our community has come together to support a wide range of charitable causes, and we're committed to continuing to make a positive impact in the world through this initiative.

And, of course, this coming year will also mark the 10th anniversary of Gate.io. It's been an incredible journey, and I'm so grateful for the support and loyalty of our community. We reached new peaks as the second-largest exchange by trading volume in early 2022 and we also put in the Forbes UK's list of the best crypto exchanges for December 2022.

As we look forward to 2023, I want to assure you that we'll continue to focus on these fundamentals - security and compliance, user experience, and charity - while exploring new projects and opportunities. I am also personally excited to continue learning and experimenting with new technologies, and to spend more time with my family and friends.
