Summary

  • Dorian Nakamoto has denied claims that he is Satoshi, saying his poor English may have contributed to the association.
  • Although Dorian shares a Japanese background and liberal ideas with Satoshi, his technology does not meet the requirements of Bitcoin.
  • While some in the crypto community believe Dorian is Satoshi Nakamoto, the evidence suggests this is unlikely.

Dorian Nakamoto is probably the most famous name in the crypto community associated with the identity of Bitcoin founder Satoshi Nakamoto. But are there enough similarities to justify the comparison?

Who is the top candidate for Bitcoin creator Dorian Nakamoto?

Without a doubt, Dorian Satoshi is one of the more mysterious candidates to be considered Satoshi. Little is known about Dorian except that he was born around 1950, claims to be Japanese, and has a degree in physics from Caltech.

After graduation, he contributed his newfound skills to classified U.S. government projects. He likely fell victim to layoffs in the 1990s, prompting him to retrain as a teacher and welder.

Dorian's life changed dramatically in 2014 when Newsweek named him the mysterious father of Bitcoin. Since then, he has become a regular in the cryptocurrency space and has participated in cryptocurrency events with industry players.

How does Dorian comment on Satoshi Nakamoto

Dorian Nakamoto disputed Newsweek's claims in an interview with The Associated Press.

He said: "What I'm saying is that I don't work in engineering anymore, that's all. Even if I did, when we were hired, you had to sign paperwork and a contract promising not to reveal anything about us during and after employment. Informed. So that’s what I’m implying. It sounds like I used to be involved with Bitcoin, but it doesn’t look like I’m anymore. That’s not what I meant. I want to clarify that.”

The physics expert also pointed out that the founders of a project as important as Bitcoin are unlikely to use their real names.

Is he the creator of Bitcoin? expert opinion

When analyzing Dorian Nakamoto’s relationship with Bitcoin, the first thing to consider is a comment Satoshi made on the P2P Foundation forum after the Newsweek report. In the post, the pseudonymous founder explicitly denied being Dorian Nakamoto.

The public speculated as to whether the denial was merely a red herring. Some in the cryptocurrency community still believe that Dorian is indeed the mysterious Satoshi Nakamoto, but have denied these rumors for security reasons.

The link between the two is based on several facts and apparent coincidences. First of all, the two have similar names and are both Japanese. Second, Dorian Nakamoto lives in Los Angeles, an area common to several people suspected of being the pseudonymous Bitcoin founder.

It is therefore likely that Dorian was associated with a group of computer scientists and programmers who contributed to the creation of Bitcoin.
