Playing 'Minecraft' for 1 hour earned 1BTC?

When you click on this article, there may be two reactions - the editor UC is back for further study? The editor made a mistake? However, the story I want to tell you this time is completely consistent with the title. This magical story happened last Sunday.

Last Sunday, November 3rd, at 5 am, founder of Ordinals & runeprotocol, @rodarmor, tweeted just three short sentences.

Before he gave further clues, many players in the comment section had already realized that this was a timed 8-hour puzzle game, which was also the last sentence of the tweet. And the prize is exactly the first sentence of the tweet, 'cactusseeds'.

Let's start by introducing the prize. 'cactusseeds' is one of the sub-collections of 'Dia De Pixales', which is Casey's personally inscribed 0th inscription (the first inscription since the birth of the Ordinals protocol). 'Dia De Pixales' is an original art series created by Casey, and we can see it showcased on Casey's personal webpage.

It can also be said that 'cactusseeds' is the sub-inscription of the 0th inscription, that is, the grandson inscription. From the following figure, we can see very well how the 'parent-child inscription' mechanism is completely established on-chain in a decentralized manner without Smart Contract on BTC to build a collection of Non-fungible Tokens.

The top-level inscription here is the 0th inscription, which can also be a TXT text inscription for other projects to indicate the name of the collection. The second-level inscription can be the logo of the collection. Here, the second-season inscription is actually a GIF animation, rotating to display the 9 'skulls' of the 'Dia De Pixales' collection. The last layer of the inscription is the specific content image of each Non-fungible Token. Through such hierarchical connections, even without the collection listing in the trading market, a Non-fungible Token collection can be organized on-chain and presented to users in a very intuitive way.

As for why Sun Mingwen is called 'cactusseeds'? That's a question for Casey. However, here we can also see how the specific individual Non-fungible Tokens in the collection are named, which is to deliberately find Satoshis with corresponding names.

To cut to the chase. Here comes the question, what does '25138 / 29746' in the second sentence of the puzzle mean? Six hours later, at 10 a.m., Casey gave the answer:

The answer has been revealed here - '25138 / 29746' is a set of coordinates in Minecraft, find Casey in the 2b2t server! Casey himself also confirmed this:

The first one to find me, "cactusseeds" is yours

This is not a simple task. 2b2t, known as the "oldest anarchy Minecraft server". This server, established in December 2010, is known for its lawless and highly destructive subculture, and the extreme destruction brought about by complete freedom has made 2b2t a "beautiful hell".

For new players entering 2b2t for the first time, it is difficult just to leave the "spawn area," let alone go to the coordinates specified by Casey. These difficulties include but are not limited to—

  • The 'Reborn Area' has been severely damaged and is full of traps left by veteran players.

  • To reach the coordinates designated by Casey, enough resources must be collected, otherwise one will die of hunger before reaching halfway.

  • 'Rebirth Zone' may have veteran players constantly harassing new players.

Take a look at the rendering of the "Rebirth Zone" below. This image is from four years ago, with the "Rebirth Zone" filled with magma and extremely scarce resources, resembling "hell"...

Close to 1 hour later, the winner emerged, @Rhynohowl1 became the first person to find Casey in the 2b2t server, and Casey immediately transferred "cactusseeds" to him.

In fact, this player may have spent less time finding out what Casey was doing, because it can be confirmed that he did not know what Ordinals were before, and he may not even be a Crypto player. These conclusions and inferences are drawn from his tweet content, because after he referred to the received 'cactusseeds' as 'Non-fungible Token', Ordinals players corrected him in the comments - it's not Non-fungible Token, it's inscription! In addition, he has very few past tweets and no content related to Crypto at all.

He also posted a tweet specifically responding to comments from Ordinals players - Sorry, it's not Non-fungible Token, it's Ordinals.

How did this person know that Casey is sending such an important inscription? Through 'rat trading'? No, because the information was passed to a streamer named riths who specializes in playing 2b2t servers.

So why did this information end up with a 2b2t streamer who only broadcasts on Saturdays and doesn't have a large number of fans? Because @Brunno_UTXO, co-founder of the BTC Non-fungible Token project INK, went to this live channel to deliver this information. He also expressed his willingness to immediately spend 1 BTC to purchase 'cactusseeds' in the live channel to @Rhynohowl1.

After the end of the event, it is generally believed that @Rhynohowl1 directly earned 1 BTC's direct source. In fact, @Rhynohowl1 listed the inscription at a price of 10 BTC on Magic Eden, and the highest offer received so far is 0.33 BTC. He will list it at 10 BTC, probably because Casey said such a sentence in the reply:

"10 BTC, or broken"

In his video, another KOL @cbspears also expressed his willingness to buy 'cactusseeds' for a price of 5 BTC.

Life is always full of surprises and unexpected events. For @Rhynohowl1, it could have been just another ordinary Saturday (Sunday in our time zone) before something happened. He turned on his computer, opened Minecraft, and joined the 2b2t server to play while watching and chatting on riths' Twitch live channel. Suddenly, a message appeared, and he began searching for the founder of Ordinals & runeprotocol in this virtual world of Minecraft. When this prominent figure from another virtual world appeared before his eyes in what may seem like an ordinary Minecraft avatar, he received 1 BTC.

Starting from the release of rune 'MEMENTO•MORI', Casey has become more active, making some attempts to promote the rune ecosystem. After the end of this puzzle game, early yesterday morning, Casey posted a long tweet, expressing that they do not want to crazily promote one specific coin like other ecosystem's 'Chief Sales Officer', and hopes to listen to everyone's opinions and have some good methods to help promote the rune and even the Ordinals ecosystem.

After Casey's statement, the highest increase of 'MEMENTO•MORI' reached 45%. BlockBeats previously introduced this rune (related reading: Ordinals protocol founder released a new rune, as expected?), as a rune personally released by Casey, it once dropped below a market capitalization of $10 million after minting, which even led players to make helpless jokes - Casey pumped too much, 'not as good as' Vitalik's dog. After Casey's statement, players' perception of 'MEMENTO•MORI' has also improved significantly along with the rise in price.

Will rune get better? This will be proved by time. And the story of "playing Minecraft for 1 hour and earning 1 BTC" is not over yet. Similarly, only time will show us how much "cactusseeds" will sell for as the ecosystem and BTC develop.

But now, this story is already fascinating enough.
