Who is Nick Szabo, another candidate for Satoshi Nakamoto?
Author: Robert D. Knight, CoinTelegraph; Translation: Baishui, Golden Finance
A new HBO documentary aired on October 8th suggests that it has found the real Satoshi Nakamoto, the pseudonymous inventor of Bitcoin (BTC).
While this may be a marketing ploy, the statement has once again sparked speculation about who might be the inventor of BTC.
Some people believe that Nick Szabo may be the real Satoshi Nakamoto. He is an American cryptographer, legal scholar, and computer scientist who has made significant contributions to the field of blockchain since the early 1990s.
In other words, Saab made contributions to blockchain before the emergence of BTC.
Sabu graduated from the University of Washington in 1989 with a degree in Computer Science. He also holds a Juris Doctor degree from the George Washington University Law School.
In 1994, Saab introduced the term "Smart Contract", which brought legal protection into the digital field through code. Smart Contracts later became the basis for the wider Block chain industry.
In 1998, Sabo proposed a new form of currency called "Bitcoin Gold". Sabo's Bitcoin Gold is different from other currencies because it is completely digital, does not require any intermediary, and solves the Double Spending problem through Proof of Work.
Saab's Bitcoin Gold network uses the Proof of Work encryption solution chain, but relies on the legal number of participants in the Address rather than the legal number of computing power to achieve Consensus. It is said that this makes Bitcoin Gold vulnerable to Sybil attacks.
Sabu continues to describe the rationale for his theoretical currency: "Long ago, I came up with the idea of Bitcoin Gold. In short, the problem is that our money currently relies on trust in third parties to obtain its value. As demonstrated by many inflation and hyperinflation events in the 20th century, this is not an ideal state."
If you are familiar with Bitcoin (BTC) and all of this sounds familiar, you're not the only one who sees the similarities. Bitcoin Gold is widely regarded as one of the main predecessors of BTC.
In October 2008, 10 years after Saab first proposed "Bitcoin Gold", Satoshi Nakamoto released the BTCWhite Paper.
The speculation about the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto is almost as old as BTC itself, but over the years, many contenders have emerged, with Sabo being the most popular.
HBO Documentary
The inventor of Bitcoin may still be a mystery, but speculation has been sparked by a new HBO documentary claiming to finally reveal the true identity of Satoshi Nakamoto, which has caught the attention of the prediction market Polymarket.

Len Sassaman was an early front-runner, but Sabo has now taken a commanding lead. His odds are in the double digits, while the other competitors remain in single digits.
There are several reasons why Nick Szabo could be Satoshi Nakamoto, some of which we have mentioned.
The first was the invention of Bitcoin Gold, a cryptocurrency proposed by Nick Sabat, but never implemented, but it has many similarities in concept with BTC. Although the concept of Bitcoin Gold is somewhat rough compared to BTC, considering that Sabat has ten years to eliminate these rough edges, is it not possible for him to do so?
The second is Sabo's broader contribution to blockchain and Cryptocurrency, which proves his ability and value. There is no doubt that Sabo has at least the technical ability to be a competitor of Satoshi Nakamoto.
In his work "BTC: The Future of Currency?", author Dominik Frisby believes that Sabo and Nakamoto have very similar writing styles. In addition, both have quoted economist Carl Menger.
As we all know, Saab pays great attention to privacy, and it is said that Nakamoto also has a similar tendency.
Finally, at every turning point, Sabo denied being Satoshi Nakamoto, forming a sharp contrast with those who claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto. If history teaches us only one thing about Satoshi Nakamoto, it is that those who claim to be Satoshi Nakamoto are almost certainly not.
