Roam Network: A Revolutionary Development of Global WiFi Networks

Roam, formerly known as MetaBlox, was founded in Q4 2021 by a team with experience in telecommunications and cryptocurrency. In Q2 2022, MetaBlox launched the WiFi-Miner (MBWF-P100) and joined the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) as the only official Web3 partner. In Q4 2022, the Roam app was launched, supporting connections to more than 1 million free decentralized Wi-Fi hotspots through OpenRoaming and generating decentralized identities (DIDs) for password-free, automatic internet access. In 2023, Roam implemented support for DID/VC-based OpenRoaming profiles on major mobile platforms and launched Miner v2 and app improvements. In the second quarter of 2024, Roam changed its name from MetaBlox and migrated to the Solana mainnet. It currently has more than 3 million DePIN network nodes and more than 2 million application users.

Roam’s mission is to unify more than 600 million public Wi-Fi hotspots around the world, creating an open-access global wireless network that ensures automatic wireless connections, seamless switching between different networks, and secure connections for individuals, smart devices, and artificial intelligence agents.

Core Technology: OpenRoaming™ Framework for Seamless Cross-Border Connections

Roam’s core technology is based on decentralized identifiers (DIDs) and verifiable credentials (VCs), using encryption technology to ensure the security of user identity and data. The OpenRoaming™ framework it uses breaks the closed nature of traditional WiFi networks, allowing users to seamlessly switch between more than 6 million nodes without repeated authentication. In addition, Roam works with global operators through smart eSIM services to automate cross-border connections, allowing users to cover networks in multiple countries with just one account.

The disruptive nature of this architecture is that it transforms the supply and consumption of network resources into an open market: users are both consumers and node providers by sharing idle bandwidth, and are incentivized through ROAM tokens. This model significantly reduces the cost of network deployment, while the generated anonymized location data provides a privacy-protected data layer for AI applications.

ROAM Token Economics: Circulation rate 9%, multiple utilities form a positive closed loop

The total supply of ROAM tokens is 1 billion, and the current circulating supply is 90 million, accounting for 9% of the total supply. The total circulation market value is US$157 million, and the market value/full circulation market value ratio is 9.00%, reflecting the market’s expectations for the long-term value of the project.

ROAM allocation adopts a pre-mining model, which is in line with the early VC investment logic. In addition, the token release follows an exponential decay curve, and the issuance rate is dynamically adjusted in combination with user activities (such as check-ins), which not only encourages early participation but also avoids excessive inflation.

The utility of ROAM tokens runs through the entire ecosystem, forming a closed loop of “use-incentive-value-added”:

  • Payment and exchange: users need to use ROAM to pay for network services or exchange free roaming data, directly binding the value of tokens to network usage needs;

  • Staking and governance: coin holders can participate in network security maintenance through staking and gain benefits, and at the same time have community governance voting rights to promote protocol upgrades and decision-making;

  • Data privacy protection: The blockchain credential system is combined with OpenRoaming technology. ROAM provides a privacy protection data layer for AI applications and expands enterprise-level application scenarios.

ROAM future route development plan: integration of AI, data mining, and ecological construction

As the world’s largest decentralized wireless network, Roam’s future development will focus on three core directions: technology expansion, ecological construction, and data value mining, further promoting the deep integration of decentralized communications and artificial intelligence.

1. Deep expansion of the global node network
Roam plans to accelerate node deployment through the DePIN (decentralized physical infrastructure network) model, aiming to expand self-built WiFi nodes from the current 700,000 to more than 1 million by 2025, covering more remote areas. At the same time, by optimizing the OpenRoaming protocol to achieve seamless switching across networks, user devices can jump seamlessly between different hotspots, and the communication encryption level is benchmarked against 5G private networks. The development of the hardware L1 layer will also be put on the agenda, aiming to provide low-latency connection support for edge computing and IoT devices.

2. Web3 ecosystem and user incentive system upgrade
The “discovery ecosystem” launched in March 2025 will become a key focus, building a unified identity authentication system through on-chain credentials (DIDs/VCs), and users can seamlessly access the global network with digital identities. The token economic model will be further optimized, and ROAM tokens will be deeply bound to network contributions. Node providers, data validators and developers can obtain incentives through staking, data sharing and other behaviors, driving the number of currency holding addresses from the current 1,765 to achieve exponential growth.

3. AI-driven privacy-preserving data layer
Roam will strengthen its “data as a service” capabilities, using blockchain technology to transform user behavior data into structured AI training sets, while ensuring data sovereignty through privacy computing technologies such as zero-knowledge proofs. This data layer will provide a compliant training environment for AI agents and promote the implementation of scenarios such as smart cities and autonomous driving.

4. Strategic cooperation and compliance layout
As one of the top ten OpenRoaming identity issuers in the world, Roam has reached cooperation with many telecom operators and will further integrate cellular network resources in the future to provide global smart eSIM services. At the same time, in response to the regulatory requirements of different countries, Roam will launch a modular compliance framework to ensure the legality of the network in terms of data privacy and spectrum use.

Through the above planning, Roam is committed to building a “seamless connection network” covering 190+ countries and becoming a dual hub for communication infrastructure and AI data value in the Web3 era.

Conclusion

Roam provides innovative solutions for global connectivity through decentralized Wi-Fi networks, global eSIM services and privacy-preserving data layers. This disruptive technology is expected to reshape the Internet infrastructure and bring users a more convenient and efficient network experience.

Risk Warning: Technological development and regulatory policy changes may affect the implementation progress and market acceptance of Roam Network.
