Meta plans to begin mass layoffs this week, according to a report by Bloomberg.
The layoffs are expected to affect thousands of employees, and the layoff announcement is scheduled to be made as early as Wednesday. People familiar with the matter said company executives have informed employees to cancel non-essential travel starting this week.
Meta reported that it had more than 87,000 employees at the end of September. Meta CEO Zuckerberg recently said in a statement that the company will "focus its investments on a few high-priority areas," which would be the first major layoffs since Meta was founded.
The Wall Street Journal reported in September that Meta plans to cut expenses by at least 10 percent in the coming months.
