Introduction

Render Network is a decentralized rendering platform that provides 3D rendering solutions through a decentralized GPU network. The project connects those in need of GPU computing power with providers who have excess computing capacity, monetizing the providers’ GPUs and extending intensive 3D rendering work and applications to the cloud. It is primarily used for AI, virtual reality, and media and content creation.

Technical Principles

The network’s rendering technology is powered by OctaneRender, a high-performance rendering software developed by Render Network’s parent company, OTOY. The network’s design allows efficient utilization of idle GPUs globally, democratizing access to rendering capabilities. The rendering network uses smart contracts to automate the rendering process. Users submit rendering requests, which are then processed by other users with GPU resources. The completed renders are returned to the network, and the users who process the requests are rewarded with $RNDR tokens. Using this network, the Render Network has two main emerging applications:

Augmented Reality and Gaming

The Render Network’s GPU pre-rendering and real-time streaming enable users to share real-time interactive experiences for cloud-streamed immersive content and augmented reality (AR). Users utilize Render Network technology to live stream real-time interactive 3D experiences or deploy hybrid pre-rendered and real-time graphics to create cinematic-quality games and AR.

Artificial Intelligence

Developers can use the Render Network to create AI applications, ranging from prompt-based AI-assisted 3D content and AI-accelerated holographic rendering to new forms of inference and AI training that leverage the Render Network’s 3D scene graph data with full Digital Rights Management (DRM) features such as attribution and traceability.

Network Architecture

Render Network consists of two main structural layers:

Off-chain Rendering Network

This layer comprises Creators, Node Operators, the Render Network, and rendering application layer vendors. Node Operators are GPU nodes that provide computing power to the network.

Blockchain Layer

This layer handles payment processing via RENDER and escrow contracts. By leveraging the blockchain’s public ledger, all interactions between Creators and Node Operators are publicly verifiable, allowing Creators, Node Operators, and the Foundation Team to ensure that all transactions are processed correctly, easily trackable, and correctable in case of issues.

RNDR Token

Payment for GPU Rendering Services: RNDR is a utility token used to pay for rendering work. Users pay for rendering tasks with RNDR and can access various GPU providers with different speeds, security, and price levels. Pricing is divided into three tiers: Tier 1 (trusted partners), Tier 2 (priority), and Tier 3 (economy).
Rewards for GPU Providers: Node Operators can use idle GPU capacity to render jobs on the Render Network and earn RNDR tokens as rewards. The amount depends on the job’s tier, duration, and complexity. Node Operators can also stake their RNDR tokens to increase engagement with projects and users, gaining more rendering work.
Governance Token: RNDR also serves as a governance token, allowing token holders to participate in the network’s governance.
RNP-001 proposed changing the token model to the BME (Burn-Mint Equilibrium) model. The BME workflow is as follows:

  1. Burning: Under the Render Network’s BME model, tasks will be priced in USD, and Creators need to burn an equivalent amount of RNDR tokens to submit their tasks.
  2. Minting: In each epoch, new RNDR tokens will be minted.

    Key Metrics

    Tokenomics

    Initial Total Supply: 536,870,912 tokens.
    Token Distribution:
  • Investors: 25%
  • Team and Advisors: 10%
  • Treasury: 65%
RNP-001 proposed changing the token model to the BME (Burn-Mint Equilibrium) model, establishing a 20% inflation pool to be distributed as network incentives to Node Operators, Creators, Liquidity Providers, and Consumers to facilitate a multi-sided network. With the passage of RNP-001, the supply of RNDR will increase by 107,374,182 over two stages (Years 1-5 or the launch period) and (Year 5 to perpetuity), reaching a theoretical maximum supply of 644,245,094 (prior to any RNDR burn as outlined in the BME model).
