Hacked 15 platforms, made memecoin scam!
Crypto detective ZachXBT pointed out that a hacker took over the crypto-focused X accounts and made memecoin posts.
According to ZachXBT, the hacker took over 15 X accounts and introduced fake memecoins. The blockchain researcher exposed the method used by the crypto thief.
The hacker precisely mimicked the X accounts he seized and created a sense of urgency for investors to quickly turn to memecoins.
Fraudulent Meme Coin Activities via Famous Accounts
According to ZachXBT, victims unknowingly used the fake site to reset X account passwords and two-factor authentication (2FA) entries. The hacker took control of the accounts with the information seized and made memecoin shares from the relevant accounts. The scammer also took control of X account of the famous broadcasting platform Kick.
Crypto detective ZachXBT reported that the fraudster made a $500,000 scam. Among the seized X accounts used as a front in the memecoin fraud are Cursor, The Arena, Brett, and Alex Blania.
According to blockchain records, the hacker tried to hide the stolen funds by bridging between the Solana and Ethereum networks.
ZachXBT advised users to restrict their email addresses and use two-factor authentication in their accounts. The crypto detective noted that the compromised accounts had over 200,000 followers.
Blockchain initiative Neutron is among those who admitted the compromise of the X account.
Phishing attacks had decreased by 53 percent in November compared to the previous month. According to a report by Chainalysis, crypto thieves stole 2.2 billion dollars with 303 attacks in 2024.
