Trusts and ETFs are two different investment products. ETFs must obtain approval from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) because they are sold directly to retail investors, while the structure of trusts and the sales promotion to accredited investors are subject to looser regulations. Nevertheless, as long as the appropriate regulatory approval is obtained, trusts can also become ETFs.
