Ethereum Foundation Researcher: The golden age of Solana is over! Two advantages will be surpassed by ETH L2.
Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake recently stated in a podcast that Solana's golden age may be coming to an end, as Solana's two major advantages, 'latency' and 'throughput,' are about to be surpassed by Ethereum Layer2. (Background: Ethereum crazy bull run initiated? ETH surged 13%, top ten Tokens the strongest, ENS, Puffer.. ecosystem coin big pump 50%) In the current Bull Market, the public chain Solana, with its advantages of fast transaction speed and low gas fees, has dominated the majority of the traffic during the meme season and on November 22, SOL Token price broke through $260, hitting a historical high. In contrast, the top public chain Ethereum, with no significant breakthroughs in its recent ecosystem development and high gas fee issues, has led on-chain users to stay away, resulting in the continuous sluggishness of Ethereum coin prices. However, Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake recently indicated that Solana's good days may be coming to an end. Ethereum Foundation researcher: Solana's golden age is about to end, encryption media The Defiant tweeted today (29th) that in the latest podcast, Ethereum Foundation researcher Justin Drake discussed how Ethereum Layer2 will surpass Solana in terms of latency and throughput, and bluntly stated that Solana's golden age is about to end: BTC, Ethereum, and Solana: different competitive focuses Justin Drake: To sum up this competition, we can say this: on the one hand, BTC's competitive advantage lies in its stability, Lindy effect (historical durability), and coin attributes; while Beam Chain focuses on maximizing the performance of Ethereum Layer 1, making its competition with BTC more direct. On the other hand, Solana's core is performance. In my model, Solana's competitor is actually Ethereum's Layer 2, not Layer 1 itself. For Solana, the good news is that it has performed well on two key performance indicators in the past year or two: latency and throughput. Solana's advantages are no longer: latency and throughput Justin Drake: In terms of latency, Solana has a very short slot time. However, for Ethereum, the arrival of pre-confirmations will significantly improve latency, even surpassing Solana. Currently, Solana's average latency is 200 milliseconds. But pre-confirmations will drop latency to nearly 10 milliseconds, meaning there will be a 20-fold improvement in slot latency. In terms of throughput, we have witnessed the flourishing development of Layer 2 this year. A website rollup.wtf shows that from a computational perspective (measured by the number of gas per second), throughput has risen. Ethereum's goal is to process as many transactions as possible within the entire ecosystem, and Layer 2 has demonstrated its ability to horizontally scale. Currently, the overall throughput of Layer 2 is about 100 times higher than Ethereum Layer 1, and it is very likely to rise to 1000 times, or even 10,000 times next year. This is a sustainable and scalable architecture. At the same time, Solana's strategy is to concentrate all activities on a single server. Each validation Node requires a large server to handle all activities, but the performance of these servers has basically reached its limit, so it cannot significantly increase throughput. I believe that Solana will not be able to increase its gas limit by 10 times next year, while Ethereum is very likely to expand the overall gas limit by 10 times through Layer 2. In summary, we may be about to witness the end of Solana's golden age, as its once proud two major performance indicators will no longer have a competitive advantage. Interestingly, Solana co-founder Anatoly Yakovenko also quoted The Defiant's tweet and attached an image, stating: Solana's golden age is over, the time of the multisig has come. And this tweet seems to be mocking, implying that the Ethereum Foundation lacks practical achievements and only uses the statement 'Ethereum is about to surpass Solana' to motivate its ecosystem users and developers.
