As a result, many artists are using the blockchain technology to leverage the existing opportunities in the music, sport and art fields. Expectedly, many experienced artists who use the NFT technology to create artworks have generated high income. Today, we look at the ten top crypto artists who include Pak, Fewocious, Xcopy and Beeple.
Beeple
Popularly known as Beeple, Mike Winkelmann is an American digital artist and animator who has become a big name in the NFT art sector. Born on 20 June 1980, Beeple, a computer science graduate, uses various mediums to create some comical and hallucinatory works which appeal to many people as they cover political and social elements of modern society. He creates different digital artworks which involve augmented reality and virtual reality. His artworks include drawings, illustrations, realistic paintings and surrealist landscapes.
The collaborations which Beeple made with top companies like Apple, SpaceX, Nike, and Samsung made him well-known. In addition, he also created virtual concerts for other artists who include Ariana Grande, Justin Bieber, Childish Gambino and Nicki Minaj.
So far, Beeple has sold over 845 artworks, generating over $113,544,319. One of his best compilations of digital art, entitled “Everydays: The First 5 000 Days”, generated $69,346,250 on Christie’s auction on March 11, 2021. Previously, he sold other two works, Crossroad and Ocean Front, which fetched $6.6 million and $6 million, respectively. In 2021, he created another stunning artwork, a dynamic video sculpture, accompanied by a dynamic NFT, which he named Human One, sold on 9 November 2021 for $28 958 million.
Fewocious
Victor Langois, known as Fewocious, is an 18 year old boy who has made a name for himself in the crypto art sector. In 2021, he partnered with the popular musician, Two Feet, to create and sell artwork worth over $1 million at Nifty Gateway. So far, Fewocious has sold over 3 000 pieces of digital art with an estimated average price of $5 812.16 and a total sum of more than $18,175,346.
Fewocious uses a surreal style with post humanist aesthetics. Notably, Mr Langois uses vibrant colours to create combinations of hallucinatory images and texts. One of his best creations is “The EverLasting Beautiful”, sold in March 2021 for $550,000. He also collaborated with RTFKT, known for merging realities of gaming and fashion, to produce a range of NFTs which raked in over $3 million sales in a few minutes. His other outstanding piece is called “Hurt Feelings,” worth about 231.1 ETH. As we note, Fewocious has made himself a name in the world of NFT art.
Trevor Jones
The Scottish artist, Trevor Jones started painting when he was in his 30s. Due to his immense interest in art and technology, he ventured into painting QR codes before he immersed himself in full time crypto art.
Jones combines traditional art and digital technology to create amusing artworks. To achieve the greatest impact on his audience, Jones uses augmented reality (AR), NFC tags, video production and animation in creating his artworks. His themes are centred on cryptocurrency which is the reason why most of his work appeals to crypto fanatics.
Jones has created and sold over 5,200 artworks, earning an estimated amount of $18,591,061. One of his most celebrated pieces is Genesis which fetched $604,967 on the market. In fact, Jones collaborated with Jose Delbo to create Genesis, although it was not his only artwork. He also sold a sketch of Batman which was the best selling NFT at the time of the auction. Recently, one of his notable works, “
Bitcoin angel” was purchased for $3.2 million. The fact that he creates the physical forms of the artworks before digitizing and tokenizing them attracts many buyers and followers.
Pak
Pak is a reputable NFT artist, with one of the greatest number of fans and followers in the digital world. Since he/she has kept his/her real name unknown for over a decade, many people refer to him/her as “Satoshi of the Crypto art”, likening him/her to Satoshi Nakamoto, the creator of
Bitcoin who has remained unknown for a long time.
As of now, it is not yet established if Pak is an individual artist or a group of art creators. Generally, Pak’s pieces of art have monochromatic designs, combined with geometric shapes. Pak rose to prominence after he/she offered to give one of his/her pieces of art, “The Gift”, to any auction house that would request for it. Remarkably, SotheBy was the first auction house to ask for it, although “The Gift” was on the NFT marketplace Nifty Gateway.
The Gift is a collection of Pak’s pieces of art. Interestingly, each digital artwork which is part of The Gift is a cubic image, with a different title. So far Pak has sold 1,690 artworks with a total estimated value of $16,880,471.30. Probably, the best artwork for Pak is Metarift which sold for $974,982.87 in March 2021.
Xcopy
Xcopy, a London based artist, has over 2 000 pieces of art with a total value of over $45, 000, 000. Overall, Xcopy is a digital artist whose works explore the themes of death, apathy and dystopia. He/she explores these through flashing images and distorted visual loops. Some of the pieces of art are animated while others are static. He/she sold his/her work through various marketplaces which include Super Rare, Async Art, Nifty Gateway, and Rarible. In all, Xcopy has sold 1, 907 pieces of art with a value of over $11,000, 000. One of his/her renowned pieces of art is entitled “Death Dip,” sold for $1.8 million.
Mad Dog Jones
Mad Dog Jones, the Toronto – based digital artist, started his career by creating and posting photographs and drawings of cityscapes on Instagram. His drawings, which capture Canada’s natural wilderness and the Japanese animations, explore various themes including love, friendship, technology and urban landscapes.
His unique attribute is the ability to blend music and art which gives him a huge audience. Mad Dog has sold more than 1,567 artworks which have a total estimated value of more than $14,000,000. He became well-known following the sale of REPLICATOR, which self-produces seven unique NFT within four weeks. However, the subsequent generations will produce less NFTs. His most notable piece of art is The Boardwork, sold for $388,888 in February 2021.
Hackatao
Hackatao involves two artists Nadia Squarci and Sergio Scarlet, who joined the digital art industry in 2018. Their main themes revolve around cryptocurrencies, humanity, the society and the environment. The artworks exist on several NFT marketplaces which include Super Rare, Nifty Gateway and Async Art.
In total, they have sold more than 1,500 artworks with a value of close to $13 million. One of Hackatao’s most successful pieces is entitled, “Kim Jong Un - "Dead and Alive" Edition “which fetched over $250 000, in March 2021. As you expect, this is an animation of the North Korean president Kim Jong U.
Other well-known artists
The list of artists excelling in the NFT sector is long. We cannot do justice to discuss them all in detail. However, we can recognize them and they include the American DJ 3LAU, Boston based digital creator Mike Parisella popularly known as SlimeSunday and Grimes, whose real name is Claire Elise Boucher. The multi-talented Grimes is a visual artist, singer and record producer whom many people view as the queen of dream pop.
