Gate.io Podcast Interview | AMA with DeFi Land

2021-12-24, 06:16

Hey guys, thanks so much for tuning in, we are super excited because in today's podcast, we have Erwin, our guest from DeFi Land. DeFi Land is a multi-chain agriculture-simulation web-game created to gamify and reimagine DeFi, NFTs, and the Metaverse for ease of access to consumers and investors. Please join me in welcoming Erwin, one of the core founders of DeFi Land, and without further ado, let's dive in.

(Marie: Hi, Erwin. )

(Erwin: Hi. How are you doing? Thanks for having me and I really appreciate that and I'm really happy to be here. )

Q: Thanks so much for joining us today. Why don't you start off by telling us a little bit about yourself and when did you get into the blockchain space?

A: Sure, so basically, I'm coming from a tech industry and have been working for defender companies as well as the biggest tech companies such as a W. S. in the media, one of the biggest inspiration boxes as well. Since 2017, I have been really actively trading into crypto, just the ordinary stuff, nothing too crazy and got attracted into until 2018 as everyone I guess, but I kept being in this industry since defi summer and I was heavily involved in DeFi as well as in NFTs, and because of that I have spent like the rest of 2 years, really really actively learning, researching and doing many different stuff on DeFi and blockchain industry, and now we are here today.

Q: What a summer that DeFi summer was, a lot more interesting than that last summer I have to say. So to get started, why did you guys decide to build the DeFi Land on the SOLANA?

A: Definitely. So we really want to build a game that would not be just like other games, we don't want to be just an ordinary game. We want to make a game that really becomes the game that goes to the mainstream, and everyone including the old and retail users are going to use this to learn and also earn it. Because of that, we want to build on the blockchain that would be really fast and cheap and would have really scalable infrastructure, and there was like by the time we would be deciding that.

There were different options for us to choose, but we chose Solana because our founders chose it with great trust. We believe in the blockchain and no one was really talking about Solana. I like everyone was basically running away from it as well as in July, the excellent price was $20, but like we really believe in that, and we started to build there, and right now this one is really getting a lot of momentum. I like everyone who is talking about that and I believe it's really well deserved. Actually we are the first game to launch on Solana efficiently, we're happy to be building on this blockchain but definitely we are gonna be moving to all the blockchains as time comes.

Q: Got it, good to hear, and I do think, interoperability is so important in the crypto space. Now tell me what are some of the challenges that the DeFi Land team has run into? and you know maybe you can tell us more about some of the milestones that you've hit as well.

A: Building on Solana It is not so easy to build on a very cheap, fast trading and scalable platform. So you're just gonna require a lot of different technology. We do a lot of those into the game mechanics. It's really hard so we have spent countless nights coming up with some really good ideas, like how to integrate different functions such as the yield farming swaps for the trucking management into the game. So those were really really hard days, but we have learned a lot from that. Nowadays, we're experts in our knowledge and nowadays we are really looking forward to breaking the next milestone is the public testing, but the time point is nearly Christmas time, so the world model will be taking place at the end of February. I'm super excited about that and I am ready to bring DeFi Land to the masses.

Q: Great, now let's talk a little bit about the DeFi, because it is a bit of a complicated concept for some of the newbies that we have here, and the market despite recent slumps is still really growing at an exponential rate on a year-to-year basis. My question is what do you think, as a blockchain developer, should the blockchain community work together to achieve in streamlining a simplified onboarding process?

A: Indeed. I believe there are a lot of DeFi haters. In fact, it takes a long process to truly integrate defi into the public. Many people don't quite understand why to use defi. Although the process of being accepted by the public is a little bit slow, I believe that DeFi will eventually change technology and the senior financial industry.

I know that a lot of effort needs to be made to achieve this. The technologies involved in DeFi are indeed really really complex, but we should believe that we can create it better. We can start with really simple steps and add them one by one. And maybe in 10 years or in 15 years, we're gonna see transition from just traditional financing to blockchain projects, because we can't really change user behavior just overnight.

People are used to the way of retailing, because they know how to interact with it, but there is no breakthrough. It makes no sense to repeat the same products. We want to make a very simple game. Retail users can also play and play. That's what we want to do. I would like to thank everyone who has played the farming games and everyone has interacted with that. It's pretty simple, super easy to play. I believe that would make a lot of sense to interact and build our own features in this way, which will slowly transition from nowadays daily lives into the field of DeFi.

Q: Got it. and how about the Defi Land ecosystem in particular? Can you tell us more about some of the main features?

A: Definitely. Our next goal is to remain the number one blockchain game, but at the same time, we will continue to work hard. This is our goal, not just for a reason. At the same time, we are not competing with Daniel's existing games, we are actually helping their users learn more about defi cryptocurrency.

One of the distinctive features is educational land which is some kind of practice mode where users will be able to play the game for free without any money. They will be able to do swaps, yield farming, the contractor portfolio changes and so on. And everything is for free, and they won't lose any money. There will be excellent local 5 style video animation, just as they are doing, so that people can really understand the actual working principle and function of the game project. Once they learn all this stuff, they will have a good final exam and if they pass the exam they will get the NFTs.

At the same time, users who have played the game can recommend the game to their friends or their family members by email. We also launched the educational land (practice mode), which can be used by all users to try to use practice assets to try and play the guided version of our game. In order to encourage players to play the game, we will set various goals. Once achieved, we will unlock NFTs, $DFL tokens and other rewards. In addition, users require farming experience instead of just farming on the already existing farm. The farm needs to be planted from the beginning. You can see the growing crops and you can just see visually what they're actually doing. So I believe that will be the main thing for us to create this game, because of this feature, our game will succeed.

Q: Right. Now, that was a really thorough explanation of space and of DeFi land. But users on Gate.io also like to know about the tokens. So can you tell us more about the DFL token? and kind of which part of the game will the DFL token you know come into play? How can users participate in the ecosystem?

A: Sure. So definitely, tokens or coins are really important in the game. Some people like to use it in the game. In addition to the governance function, DFL can also be used to stake tokens, upgrade land, buy skin, buy NFT from the market, etc. in addition, after the game is launched in version 2.0, it can participate in betting and competition in the battle; At present, many games are using DFL tokens because of its crafting features and upgradeability.

Suppose you have a fishing rod. If you have better fishing or catch bigger fish, you must upgrade your already existing NFTs. The DFL token can be used to update and upgrade your equipment. Related transactions are mainly realized with DFL tokens, but we will also add auxiliary currencies in the game, such as SOP and other tokens mainly used for game transactions. We can cover everything. At the same time, we have many projects under promotion, which will be launched one after another. The governance ability of DFL tokens in game currency is beyond doubt.

Q: Great. That was really useful because I think it's really important to know what token is to be used for, because the project can be so great but if the token is not on point then the project will not survive so I'm glad that you guys have thought it through. So tell me what the roadmap ahead looks like and maybe to close things off where do you see the metaverse and a few years' time?

A: Definitely. so the roadmap for us has a lot of stuff to offer. So first of all, One of the biggest challenges we have right now and the biggest milestone coming is public testing. The testing is to be publicly available for everyone; the official game will be released in February of the next year. There will be many different things but I believe afterwards we will pass through those risks. At that time, we can experience great features. I believe that you guys will be super happy about enjoying the experience of the game.

Definitely, there are a lot of different milestones coming our way, and yeah in the middle of 2020, we made little achievements. We created great games, the user experience is also very good, and the feedback from different users is awesome as well. Users can learn and play, play and earn, and you're going to love to experience our game. For us, that's the biggest thing.

As for the metaverse, I believe that with the improvement of the application mechanism, it will develop better and better. At present, a large number of retail brands are gradually moving closer to the metaverse. It's still too early to adapt to change. In the past 2020, I believe that not everything will be happening in the metaverse and that's okay. I believe that as time goes step by step, we will convert many different things in real life into the metaverse. And I believe that DeFi will shine in the meta universe.

Q: Fantastic. Thank you so much for joining me today when I look forward to playing the multiplayer game because that sounds really exciting. This wraps up our podcast but before you go, do you have a message for the Defi Land community?

A: Definitely. The message for me would be, even though there are some people manipulating the bear market and other people are saying the crypto winter is coming and so on. If you really believe in this industry, you should not leave. We should have expectations, have confidence in the builders of the encryption industry like us, and stick to this field. Its innovation and changes are emerging one after another and are constantly changing and there is a lot of stuff coming on. What we need to do is to stay tuned and don't blink.

(Marie: Thanks so much for joining us today, Erwin, you have yourself a nice day okay. )

(Erwin: I appreciate that a lot and I wish everyone a great Christmas holiday. )

(Marie: Great. Thank you, thanks everyone for joining.)
